Can’t I host my own website?

Short answer, Yes.

Long answer, You really shouldn’t, Why? In order to “provision” your own website you need a couple of key components. Personally, I have a story that may shed some light on the reason.  Being the technical geek that I am, I had setup my own server in my house to host websites for various clients.  One day, my network, server, desktops, etc were all working fine, took a break for two or three hours, came back and nothing was working.  After 15 minutes of panic, I looked out my front porch to find the line from the house to the telephone pole was drapped across the black top of my road.  The line had snapped, there was no storm, no debris that fell 0n it, the only explination I was given by the wonderful engineer that came out was “old”, “worn out”.  Could you live with your website being down for any length of time? Good hosting companies spend lots of money on building a redundant infrastructure in a secure data center manned by technically savvy people.
